Too Fluffy

Phoebe and Monica had their annual check up with the vet. and they both passed with flying colors, except for one little thing. They are both fat! Monica needs to lose 1.5 lbs and Phoebe 1 lb. So today started their diet. I have never had to ration cat food before and I'm not really looking forward to it. But for now it is to be 1/2 cup each in the morning and evening.

My cat is very over weight. I wonder if I left food out all the time if she'd self regulate. But I am too scared to try it. I think she'd eat out of boredom.

I have always done feed on demand and let them sort it out. This is all new to me.

Here is an update. The first evening, I put out half cup for each of them (two bowls). This amount was based on the suggested amount from the bag of cat food. As my vet instructed, start with that amount and see if they are losing weight.

Well, in the morning, the bowls were not empty yet, but I put down 1/2 cup again in each bowl. Now, it is like 36 hours later and there is still food in both bowls! Obviously, my cats don't eat as much food as the bag suggests. So now I don't really know what I'm supposed to do. Hmmmm.... did they just start eating less to mess with my head? or do they really need that little food?

tisk tisk.... they do not look over weight.... try 19lbs now that is over weight! gilbert will eat us out of house and home! and when i put him on a "diet" the fire in his eyes are enough to feed him let alone his pissy tude he aquires, then there is the scratching on the carpet, and the peeing on the towels... yes "diet" is really not in the vocab, the cat likes his food.

Hi Alicia. I don't have any other animals besides my kitties. I like dogs, too.

When I was a little girl, we had a dog named Snoopy. She was a girl dog, but she had a boy dog name. She was a very good dog.
