One last rose before the winter.

Violas in our little "courtyard" bed. They last through the winter in our mild climate.

fun fun fun fun flowers - woo hoot!! I am so not much of a gardener - wish I was. We don't have a garden anyway but one day we will and neither of us have green finger :( Oh well, together we can have a go at it... Look forward to seeing them grow...
How cold does it get there in the winter? You'd never see flowers like that here in the winter. I always thought Oregon was pretty similar to here, but I guess it's not.
Your rose is beautiful. What is your climate like that you descibe winter as mild??

I believe the ocean keeps your climate mild, yes? I have heard that Oregon does not have the extreme cold that we tend to get. Even though our winters are somewhat tempered by the Great Lakes, we still get freezing temperatures and plenty of "white stuff".
Oregon has several different climates within the state. The most populated area where Portland is, is called the Willamette Valley. That is where our reputation for lots of rain comes from. The winters are mild. A snowfall will not stay on the ground for long and it only occassionally reaches below freezing.
The Cascade Mountains divide Oregon into east and west. On the east side of the mountains, the climate is more of your classic four season variety. Winters are more severe with snow, wind and freezing temperatures.
Medford is in the Souteasternmost corner of the state. Our neck of the woods is nicknamed the "banana belt" and our climate is more like that of Northern California. We get a fair bit of rain in the winter, but snow and freezing temps are even more rare than in Portland. Summers are more consistently hot and dry here than in Portland.
Oops! That should have read Medford is in the southWESTERNmost part of the state. (hence we are west of the mountains and south where it tends to be warmer)
Also, it does often get below freezing at night here, but warms during the day. The coldest days are also generally the dryest which is why we don't get much snow.
I went for a walk yesterday and noticed a few roses that are still left. Not for long!

We don't get temps too low here in Sydney...but our houses are not generally built with much heating either - so we get cold - but not actually anywhere near what other people experience temp wise. I've never seen snow - it doesn't snow in Sydney.
where are you? Have missed seeing you.. You know I will do that crying face if I don't get to chat on Skype soon :(
