Halloween

We live on a flag lot - quite a bit off the street. Last year we had no trick-or-treaters for Halloween. So, I did not bother to buy any candy this year. About 4 PM, Denis and I had a little discussion about the evening plans.

"We have no candy?"
"no, no one came last year."
"What if someone does come?"
"Well, we just won't turn on our light."
"Then what will we do for the evening in the dark? You know, I was a boy scout and our motto was 'Be prepared'."

I went to the store and got some candy. Have you tried that new-ish candy bar called Take 5? It has caramel, peanuts, pretzels, peanut butter and chocolate! Really good.

We had no trick-or-treaters this year, so we will enjoy the candy ourselves... :o)
Incidentally, when Denis was a child in Iowa, they went from door to door on Oct 30 - called Beggar's Day. On Halloween they just stayed home and ate their candy! Strange.

I've never heard of beggar's day but it sounds like a safe way to spend Halloween night. Not sure about how much candy one would get with people like you and me waiting until the last minute to buy candy...

I've never heard of Beggar's Day either. We only had 10 trick or treaters, so we have lots of candy left too. I bought some to work today for my co workers to eat (I work in a dentist's office). We tend to get rumbly stomachs before it's lunch time, so it's nice to have a piece of chocolate to munch on.

little beggers!... well we went to a friends area and did our trick or treating there.... mr D and i hated it but the kids had fun... we did discuss with them why we don't like halloween and what it is about... so seeds were planted.

I've never heard of beggars day either...nor take 5 - so I'm really out of the loop!!

I have heard of halloween though - so that's a starting place.

I love the conversation - sounds like something AB and I would say to each other! :-)

beggar's day sounds more accurate! We had a moderate amount of tricker treaters. The candy was almost gone and they were still coming...but we left to go bowling with some friends. Our own tradition.

I was in Montana visiting friends on Halloween. They went to the hospital for a prenatal class. I stayed at home and the doorbell rang many times, but I did not answer it because I had no candy. That was the worst Halloween ever. Next year I am going to make up little bags of candy and find some Sunday School type Jesus toys to put in them.
