Recovering

No, I haven't been sick. I just got done with a marathon week of busy-ness and it is finally over. Last weekend, I went to Cannon Beach for a Diabetes Educator's conference with my coworkers. We had a great time; the speakers were great and 5 of us shared a room and spent a lot of time talking, bonding and encouraging each other. I'm very blessed to work in a wonderful team.

So, I got home last Sunday night at 9PM, saw Denis for about 2 hours, and then went to bed. I worked Monday through Friday this week. Wednesday through Friday were pretty busy and by Friday night I was really tired. I'm finally starting to feel like myself again.

The really sad thing is that Denis and I missed out on our weekend together. He was off last weekend, but I was gone. This weekend he is working and I am off. But, tomorrow and Tuesday, we are finally together again. We are both off and get to enjoy each other's company for two full days.

Here is a picture so that we don't forget what he looks like. (His birthday was in December.)

Progress report

I mentioned in a previous post that I had pruned my roses quite agressively. Since there was some concern expressed as to their (the roses) well-being due to subsequent frost, I thought I would show you how they are doing now. I'm happy to report that our roses have survived my abuse and some of our other flowers are in full bloom. It's so exciting to see how they have spread in the last year. We planted all of our beds just last year. Some of these plants were quite small and anemic-looking when we put them in. Here you can see creeping flox, candytuft and lithodora that have all started blooming. We also have annual dianthus that don't realize that they are not supposed to be coming back this year and our perrennial dianthus, not wanting to be outdone, has a lot of blooms that are about to open. Plans for this year include planting gladiolus all along a front wall of the house, a small rock retaining wall to stop the rain from washing away all our topsoil in this bed that you can see in the picture, and another rose or two. We'll keep you posted.

Groovin' to the beat

It is time for another installment of Music in My CD Player! Today the set is funky/jam/folk.... Honestly, I don't know what you would call it, I just really like the sound of it. Here you go:

Warren Zanes - Memory Girls
David Gray - White Ladder
Amy Grant - Behind the Eyes
Dave Matthews Band - Crash
Edie Brickell and New Bohemians - Ultimate Collection

I found Warren Zanes on the BMG site just randomly looking at the "related music" feature. Behind the Eyes is a melancholy album with rather sad lyrics when you consider that she composed those songs while going through the divorce with Gary Chapman (around that time, anyway.) I like the sound of the songs - really different from her old pop sound. I also really like her album of hymns. Did you know that Edie Brickell is still making new albums? We have her recent one called Volcano.

I hope you have enjoyed our show today. Thanks for playing. See you next time on Music in My CD Player!
